Stablecoin shopping draws gacha pitch as SP3ND plans randomized purchases

Stablecoin shopping has drawn a pitch for randomized retail purchases after Peter of 1kx predicted a $10 billion-plus business opportunity and Josip Volarević described SP3ND’s work on a gacha buying experience.

Peter, whose X profile identifies him with investment firm 1kx, said in an Oct. 21 post that gacha mechanics could spread across consumer goods categories beyond trading card games. He predicted that a company applying the model could become the next major e-commerce winner since Shopify, with an outcome exceeding $10 billion.

His post presented an investment thesis, without sales figures or consumer research supporting that forecast. In a separate post, Volarević described SP3ND as a service for buying products from Amazon, eBay and other online shops with stablecoins, then outlined its work on randomized purchases.

Stablecoin shopping pitch reaches beyond collectible cards

Volarević said SP3ND was working toward an experience where an online shop’s inventory could become a gacha offering. His examples included computer hardware from Amazon and baby supplies from a local store, with a spin determining what a shopper receives.

Neither example came with a published price, prize table, launch date, or explanation of how unwanted goods would be handled. His wording described development work, without establishing that shoppers could already use those randomized retail products.

The response to Peter’s thesis was not uniformly bullish. A commenter named Sam described the idea as high-stimulus consumerism, arguing that blind boxes would not make sense in every retail category even if shopping and entertainment became more closely linked.

Peter replied, “Agreed.”

Another commenter pointed to Pop Mart as an existing example of the model. Peter responded that it was only the beginning, maintaining his forecast of applications beyond the established collectible market.

SP3ND publishes fees and limits for existing purchases

SP3ND’s website describes an existing process in which shoppers paste a product link, connect a wallet, and pay with crypto. The company lists USDC, SOL and BONK among supported assets and says it arranges delivery in more than 48 countries.

The company identifies itself as a Delaware corporation and merchant of record. Its published explanation says SP3ND uses its own funds to source products from suppliers or fulfillment partners after receiving payment from the customer.

For ordinary purchases, SP3ND lists a $2.50 service fee below $100, a 2.5% fee from $100 to $999, and a 1.5% fee from $1,000. Its site does not establish a separate fee schedule for the proposed gacha experience.

Volarević described shopping without identity checks or limitations, but SP3ND’s terms, effective April 2026, contain qualifications. Customers must be at least 18, and orders worth $10,000 or more require identity verification. The company reserves the right to request further information and block wallets flagged by screening services.

SP3ND’s FAQ says customers review fees and shipping estimates before payment. Shipping charges depend on the retailer’s rates and destination, while tracking information follows after dispatch. The company says it collects delivery details, including an address and email, to fulfill orders.

Collector Crypt documents a live gacha model

Collector Crypt has already reported substantial mystery-pack activity. Simon Dedic put daily openings at 106,023 and gross revenue above $22 million in an Oct. 21 post, as crypto.news reported on its record pack openings. Those figures were attributed to operating claims, not audited profit.

The platform’s developer documentation describes a purchase flow that sends an NFT to the buyer after a pack opens. Its machine data includes pricing, inventory, and prize odds, with configurations varying between machines.

Eligible holders can sell an NFT back for a percentage of its insured value in USDC, according to the guide. The documented buyback checks whether the gacha distributed the NFT within the previous 72 hours and whether a confirmed buyback has already occurred.

Coinbase previewed physical Pokémon card packs on Sep. 28, saying buyers would be able to open packs on their phones and choose storage or shipment. Its teaser gave no firm launch date, pricing or initial market list.

OpenSea named Collector Crypt among collections in its Solana NFT trading rollout announced Aug. 31. The release allowed users to browse, buy, sell and bid on supported Solana NFTs through OS2.

FTC case addresses loot-box costs and prize odds

In the United States, the FTC’s January 2025 Cognosphere settlement addressed randomized digital purchases in Genshin Impact. The agency said the developer agreed to pay $20 million to settle allegations involving children’s privacy, purchase costs, and the odds of obtaining rare prizes.

The FTC’s announcement described a proposed order requiring parental consent for loot-box purchases by children under 16. It required clear odds and exchange-rate disclosures and an option to buy loot boxes directly with real money. The announcement stated that court approval was required before the order could take effect.
