Google’s Pixel 11 lineup may be getting a new way to demand attention without lighting up its screen. Another leaked specification, however, appears to be glowing a little too brightly.
A series of leaked marketing materials suggests Google will introduce a new rear notification light called HiLight across the Pixel 11 series. The images also claim that one Pixel 11 model can reach 55% charge in just five minutes, a figure that has prompted skepticism because it does not appear to align with the phone’s rumored charging hardware.
For buyers and IT teams evaluating Android devices, the leaks point to a Pixel update focused on ambient notifications and AI integration rather than a dramatic redesign. They also serve as a reminder that prelaunch marketing materials, even those that appear authentic, should be treated as unconfirmed until Google makes an official announcement.
Leaked materials point to a new HiLight notification system
The feature previously referred to in leaks as “Pixel Glow” appears to have been renamed HiLight, according to an official-looking marketing image first reported by 9to5Google.
Google has already teased the color-changing light in official Pixel 11 series promotional material, but the company has not publicly explained how it works.
According to a translated description in the leaked image, HiLight illuminates when a favorite contact calls or while the user is interacting with Gemini, allowing notifications to remain visible when the phone is placed face down.
Ars Technica’s analysis of the leaked feature notes that HiLight appears intended to provide glanceable visual notifications rather than simply serving as a decorative lighting effect. However, neither Google nor the leaked materials indicate whether users will be able to customize colors, applications, or notification behaviors beyond the examples shown.
The concept places HiLight somewhere between the notification LEDs found on older Android phones and Nothing’s more elaborate Glyph Interface.
For workplace users, the feature could reduce unnecessary screen checks during meetings or focused work by making priority notifications visible without turning the phone over. Whether it proves genuinely useful will depend on how much control Google ultimately gives users.
The five-minute charging claim doesn’t add up
Another leaked Pixel 11 marketing image claims one Pixel 11 model can reach a 55% charge in five minutes. If accurate, it would represent one of the biggest charging breakthroughs in Google’s smartphone history.
However, PhoneArena’s analysis of the leaked specification argues that the claim is difficult to reconcile with the phone’s rumored hardware.
The publication reports that the base Pixel 11 is expected to feature a 4,985 mAh battery with 30W wired charging. Separately, the leaked marketing material reportedly references a 30W USB-C charger for the Pixel 11 Pro and a 45W charger for the Pixel 11 Pro XL, adding further confusion about the charging figures across the lineup.
PhoneArena suggests the leaked image may contain a typographical error and that the intended claim could have been 55% in 30 minutes, a figure that would more closely align with Google’s previous charging performance. Google has not confirmed either number.
While charging performance depends on more than peak wattage, including battery chemistry, thermal management, and charging curves, PhoneArena argues that the reported hardware specifications make the five-minute claim difficult to reconcile. Until Google officially confirms the charging performance, the figure should be treated as an unverified claim from leaked marketing materials rather than a confirmed specification.
Other Pixel 11 rumors remain unconfirmed
The same leaked marketing materials also point to several additional upgrades, including a thinner camera bar, 30x Super Zoom, and up to 30 hours of battery life under Google’s testing methodology, according to PhoneArena.
Beyond those claims, numerous reports have suggested Google’s next flagship phones will introduce additional AI features and hardware improvements. However, Google has not confirmed specifications, pricing, or the final product lineup.
Google is expected to unveil the Pixel 11 family during its Made by Google event on Aug. 12, when the company will clarify which leaked features ultimately make it into the finished devices.
What prospective buyers should watch
HiLight has the potential to become one of the Pixel 11 lineup’s most recognizable additions if it provides genuinely useful notification controls rather than serving as a visual novelty. Based on current leaks, however, its currently reported capabilities appear limited to highlighting calls from favorite contacts and Gemini interactions.
The charging claim deserves considerably more caution. Until Google publishes official specifications and testing conditions, buyers should treat the reported five-minute figure as an unverified leak rather than an established capability.
With Google’s launch event only days away, prospective buyers will not have to wait long to learn whether HiLight becomes a meaningful productivity feature and whether the remarkable charging claim was a breakthrough, a misunderstanding, or simply a typo.
